INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A woman with a prior conviction for killing pets has gotten the attention of law enforcement again for having animal remains in the back of a van. Now, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is asking for your help in their investigation.
News 8 previously reported that 24-year-old Krystal Scott, from Kokomo, was sentenced to federal prison in 2021 for killing 5 dogs, 5 cats and 11 unborn kittens in ‘animal crush‘ videos. June 25, a tip to the police revealed Scott was collecting animals by pretending to be their owner.
Indianapolis Animal Care Services (IACS) found 12 animals in the back of a moving van that Scott rented. None of them were hurt, but they were “underweight and extremely dehydrated,” the animal care services report said. Animal control officers issued Scott 12 violations which have a $25 fine at minimum.
July 3, an arrest warrant was issued for Scott. She is charged with a low-level felony for animal cruelty in Marion County.
IMPD reported on Monday that Scott was arrested by U.S. Marshals on June 27, near West Morris Street and the White River, for a probation violation related to a 2020 animal cruelty case. During her arrest, police say the van she rented had “multiple animal remains, believed to be from dogs and cats.”
14 live animals were confiscated in this incident and have been taken to IACS.
Investigators think that Scott would get animals by scouring social media for free pet adoptions. According to IMPD, many of the meetups were near Greenwood Park Mall. At the time she was driving a rental van with an Arizona license plate: AM95046.
“IMPD Nuisance Abatement detectives are asking for the public’s assistance,” IMPD wrote on Facebook. “If you gave or received an animal from Krystal Scott or interacted with her through social media in connection with the described van, please contact IMPD Nuisance Abatement at (317) 327-1270 or IMPD_NuisanceAbatement@indy.gov.” Police say that your information can play a vital role in their investigation.
If you believe your animal may be one of the pets that were confiscated from Scott, you’re asked to contact IACS
