PLAINFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — The Plainfield Farmers’ Market is not only feeding families but also driving local businesses and attracting new residents, fueling economic growth in one of Indiana’s fast-growing towns.
Held every Wednesday evening on the lawn outside Plainfield Friends Church at U.S. 40 and State Road 247 North, the market features over 70 vendors offering a diverse range of goods, including fresh produce, meats, artisan items, and baked goods.
“A lot of people tell me that this is where they meet their kids and grandkids for dinner,” Nicole Schmitt, Executive Assistant at the Plainfield Chamber of Commerce, said. “We’ve tripled since the Farmer’s Market started and doubled in the last two years.”
The market has evolved into a vibrant, open-air gathering place, fostering community connections and economic vitality. Vendors report strong sales, supported by a consistent crowd of visitors. “All of our vendors have told us that their sales are good and that we have a good enough crowd to support this amount of vendors,” Schmitt added. “It’s exciting and I’m proud of it.”
Local entrepreneur Tina Duncan credits the market with helping launch her family’s business, Double D’s Southern BBQ. “We started five years ago catering,” Duncan said. “We’ve now grown from tents to a food truck.” Thanks to loyal market customers, Duncan was able to open a brick-and-mortar restaurant nearby, continuing to support the market that helped her start.
The market’s success is part of a broader appeal that draws newcomers to Plainfield, access to town officials, business-friendly policies, and excellent local schools, according to Executive Director of the Plainfield Chamber of Commerce Tim Weigel.
The Plainfield Farmers Market exemplifies how community support can foster local business growth and strengthen economic momentum, proving that big dreams can indeed grow in small spaces.
