Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton opens up about his injury recovery

WESTFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — Tyrese Haliburton hosted his annual youth basketball camp on Saturday.

He was walking around in a boot, wearing a zebra-striped referee shirt and Pacers shorts as he cheered on the campers.

Haliburton is recovering from a torn Achilles, which he suffered in Game 7 of the NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

He shared an update on how he is feeling two months into his recovery.

“I’m walking now on my boot,” Haliburton said. “Getting closer to walking full time in my shoe, so that’s exciting for me. Every couple weeks it’s kind of like a new benchmark, a new achievement for me, so just being able to walk, it’s like the small wins right now. It’s taking it a day at a time. I have good days, bad days. But yeah, things are going well.”

Haliburton added that every day feels like Groundhog Day, with the same treatment and the same stuff every day, but he’s falling in love with the grind of it.

The Pacers have ruled Haliburton out for the entire 2025-26 season, and he said he has no timetable for his return.

“It’s just about getting 100%, not necessarily as fast as I can, but getting 100% is important,” Haliburton said. “I don’t want to come back and be 85, 90%, I want to be able to come back at 100%.”

But on Saturday, it was all about getting out in the community for Haliburton.

“I think just showing that I’m not just, for some kids they might think I’m like this mythical being,” Haliburton said. “I know I thought that way about NBA players. So it’s cool to be here, be in front of the kids, get to hang out, spend some time with them. I love being around it, so it’s important to me.”
