Overdose Lifeline pays tribute to overdose victims

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Overdose Lifeline held a candlelight vigil at the Indiana State Museum Sunday evening, encouraging the community to gather and pay respects to those impacted overdoses.

The event also celebrated lives lost with a memorial photo wall and a light meal for attendees.

Justin Phillips, founder and CEO of Overdose Lifeline, says events like these are about creating a space where people don’t feel judgement.

“I think it’s super important because people judge us for our child’s cause of death. They just do. And so, to have a community where we don’t feel that judgement is super important, because they were more than their cause of death. And we wanna remember them for that,” she said.

The event was held in recognition of Overdose Awareness Day, which is held globally on Aug. 31.

This story was created using a script that aired on WISH-TV.
