INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A nationwide effort called Operation Robocall Roundup targeted 37 telecom companies to combat illegal robocalls.
The Anti-Robocall Litigation Task Force, co-led by Indiana Attorney General’s Office, is sending warning letters to voice providers that have failed to comply with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules. These companies have not responded to government traceback requests, registered in the FCC’s Robocall Mitigation Databases, or filed plans to reduce illegal robocalls.
The task force is also notifying over 100 downstream providers that accept call traffic from the 37 targeted companies, alerting them to their business with non-compliant actors. This move is to prevent robocalls from reaching consumers by cutting off their access to phone networks.
The FCC has announced the removal of seven providers from the Robocall Mitigation Database, effectively barring other providers from routing calls from these networks.
