INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Ohio woman was arrested Sunday morning after driving the wrong way on the interstate in Dearborn County and crashing into a state trooper’s vehicle, Indiana State Police said.
Erin Dowers, 45, of Cincinnati, was headed west in the eastbound lanes of I-74 near the Indiana/Ohio state line around 1 a.m. when she collided with Trooper Brian Weigel’s vehicle, according to state police.
Weigel attempted to stop Dowers by blocking the interstate with his patrol car, but she entered the median to avoid him, leading to a low-speed collision.
State police say Dowers kept driving until she was stopped by another trooper.
After the crash, it was determined Dowers was drunk. She was arrested on preliminary charges of operating while intoxicated and reckless driving and transported to the Dearborn County jail.
