City announces $10 million for residential roads
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis leaders have announced plans for a $10 million investment to revitalize residential streets, marking the fourth consecutive year of such funding.
Mayor Joe Hogsett made the announcement Monday night during a City-County Council meeting where he proposed the 2026 budget. If the council approves the proposed budget, the investment would aim to improve infrastructure in residential areas, continuing the city’s commitment to enhancing local neighborhoods.
The Democratic mayor also revealed on Monday that starting in 2027, Indianapolis will have access to an additional $100 million annually for infrastructure funding.
Todd Wilson, director of the Department of Public Works, told News 8 on Tuesday, “Being prepared for 2027 is one of the No. 1 things that I’ve asked my staff to be prepared for. As soon as we were made aware that we had the opportunity to have historic amounts of funding, we started to plan immediately on what that future looks like, and I’m very excited about that and I’m very excited for all the impacts we can make for the city.”
Over the past five years, Indianapolis says it’s allocated more than $1 billion to infrastructure improvements including roads, bridges, and public facilities.
A decision on the proposed budget from the City-County Council is anticipated on Oct. 6.
