INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Mayor Joe Hogsett on Thursday announced the appointment of Natalie van Dongen as the director of community outreach.
The appointment was effective Monday.
According to a news release, van Dongen most recently served as the deputy director of policy and planning at the Indianapolis Department of Public Works. In the role, van Dongen navigated the city’s largest solid waste procurement in modern history, including the city’s first universal curbside recycling program, which is set to begin in 2028.
Van Dongen also managed a division tasked with developing creative programs and solving problems for residents. Van Dongen oversaw developments in the city’s Community Powered Infrastructure program, which included the addition of a lending library where neighborhood groups and associations can utilize supplies for their tactical urbanism and art in the Right-of-Way projects.
“Throughout the course of Natalie’s career, she has proven herself as a solution finder who seeks out ways to address the issues our residents face every day,” Hogsett said. “Her dedication to turn the needs and wants of neighbors into actionable efforts will serve her well in the role of Director of Community Outreach.”
