Man shot, boy injured in Martinsville shooting; possible suspect detained

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — A Thursday afternoon shooting in Martinsville left a man with a gunshot wound and a boy with a head injury, the city’s police department said in a news release issued Friday afternoon.

The release provided no names or ages on the two people injured or on another man, believed to be the shooter, who was detained.

The shooting was reported about 5:30 p.m. Thursday near South Home Avenue and East South Street. That’s an area with apartments just west of the I-69 overpass for East South Street and Grand Valley Boulevard.

The man received a gunshot wound to the abdomen, and on Friday was stable at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. The boy, who’d been injured with what police called “a blunt object,” was also taken to the same hospital and later released.

Detectives think “an unreported altercation” led to the shooting, and no active threat exists.

No arrest was announced in the release.
