KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) — A 45-year-old man from Kokomo was arrested Monday for possessing child sex abuse material, according to the Howard County Sheriff’s Office in a Friday news release.
In January, an investigator with the Howard County Sheriff’s Office and Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force began an investigation after receiving three tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children related to child sex abuse material and child exploitation.
The tips were generated by Yahoo!, and included 130+ files depicting child sex abuse material. Through the investigation, it was determined that Kevin Chapel Jr., 45, of Kokomo, was the Yahoo! user suspected of uploading the content.
On Aug. 7, a search warrant was obtained for a residence in the 6000 block of 80 South in Kokomo. Howard County investigators were assisted by detectives from the Kokomo Police Department. During the search, numerous electronic devices were seized from the residence, with at least one device containing media files confirmed to be child sex abuse material.
On Monday, Chapel Jr. was taken into custody and preliminarily charged with four counts of possession of child sex abuse material.
