GAS CITY, Ind. — A juvenile driver died and four others were injured early Saturday morning after a single-vehicle crash at Gas City Park.
Emergency crews arrived at the park just before 3:30 a.m. Saturday. According to a preliminary investigation by the Indiana State Police, a 2021 Hyundai Elantra was heading southbound on a road near Duck Walk Run when it drove off the road and hit a tree.
Investigators believe speed contributed to the crash, though the Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team continues to evaluate the scene.
Despite lifesaving efforts, the Grant County Coroner’s Office pronounced the juvenile driver dead at the scene. The coroner’s office will release the driver’s identity later.
Four other people were inside the vehicle, including three juveniles. Two were airlifted to area hospitals, while two others were taken by ambulance to local hospitals.
The crash remains under investigation. Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Gas City Police Department, Grant County Coroner’s Office, Gas City Fire Department, Grant County EMS, and Marion General EMS.
