INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indianapolis man will spend 50 years behind bars after pleading guilty to fatally shooting his girlfriend on his father’s front lawn early Christmas morning in 2023.
A Marion County judge gave Sir Brown Jr. the sentence as part of a plea deal.
News 8 previously reported a violent argument between Brown Jr. and his girlfriend, 24-year-old Shania Shaw, led to the shooting.
IMPD officers responded to a home in the 6600 block of East 52nd Place around 5:15 a.m. Christmas Day 2023 on a report of a disturbance with shots fired.
When they arrived, they found Shaw lying in front of the house with a gunshot wound. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.
The home belonged to Brown’s father, court documents say. Brown Jr. and Shaw had dropped off their kids the night before to go drinking in Broad Ripple. When they returned around 4 a.m. they got into an argument that eventually turned physical.
Brown Sr. told police he tried to intervene, but Brown Jr. threatened to shoot himself. After Brown Sr. ran back inside, he heard his son shoot Shaw. Brown Jr. fled the scene soon after trying to break down his father’s door.
The fight and shooting was caught on multiple security cameras, including Brown Sr.’s. Brown Jr. eventually turned himself in to police, but only on the condition he could see his mother and kids before his arrest.
Brown Jr. was originally charged with murder, domestic battery, unlawful carrying of a handgun, and attempt to commit residential entry.
As part of the plea deal, a judge dismissed Brown Jr.’s charges of domestic battery and residential entry.
