Indiana State Fair updates unaccompanied minor policy

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indiana State Fair has revised its unaccompanied minor policy heading into the first full week of the 2025 fair.

“The safety and security of fairgoers remains a priority. With this standard of uncompromised safety in mind, Indiana State Fair officials are introducing this enhancement to existing protocols,” the Indiana State Fair said on its website.

Starting Tuesday, fairgoers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or chaperone (age 25+) to enter the Fair starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday – Thursday and 4 p.m. Friday – Sunday.

The updated policy also says each adult may chaperone up to four individuals and must remain at the fairgrounds while the minors are present.

Most of the unaccompanied minor policy remains the same, including:

• Anyone under the age of 18 not accompanied by an adult will not be admitted.
• Any person entering may be asked to show a valid driver’s license or government-issued ID.
• Does not apply to organized and ticket groups or those participating in competitions where existing chaperone procedures are in place.

State fair officials did not give a specific reason for the policy change, saying only that safety remains their “top priority” and that they are committed to creating a “safe, welcoming, and enjoyable experience for all visitors.”
