INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — State conservation officers are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in Lake Michigan on Wednesday.
Just after 6:15 p.m., Lake County 911 dispatchers received a call saying that an unresponsive man had been pulled from the water at Marquette Park Beach.
The man, identified as 57-year-old Joseph Davis, of Gary, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A witness told conservation officers they saw Davis alone and struggling in chest-deep water before going under, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources said in a release Friday.
Two people entered the water and pulled out Davis. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
Several people at the scene told conservation officers about a second person missing in the water, but I Indiana DNR says those reports were inaccurate.
The investigation into Davis’ death is ongoing, but conservation officers do not suspect foul play.
