New Commissioner for Higher Education
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indiana Commission for Higher Education is set to vote on Friday to appoint Dr. Katie Jenner, the current Indiana Secretary of Education, as the next Commissioner for Higher Education. If approved, Jenner will begin work on Oct. 11.
Her goals for the position include making education more accessible for all Hoosiers, and working towards making higher education more affordable. A press release says she will support “the successful implementation of the new high school diploma requirements, as well as readiness seals.”
Commissioner Lowery, who has led the Commission since 2022, will step down in October and work closely with Jenner and Commission members to transition agency operations smoothly.
Jenner holds a doctorate in education from the University of Kentucky and an MBA from Indiana State University. She has served as Governor Holcomb’s Senior Education Advisor and held leadership positions at Ivy Tech Community College and Madison Consolidated Schools.
