Guilty plead for police chase that ended with a fatal 3-vehilce crash

MUNCIE, Ind. (WISH) — Zacrey Antrim, 30, has pled guilty a fatal crash stemming from a police chase that traveled across county lines.

April 18, 2024, a Henry County Sheriff’s Department deputy chased Antrim and 25-year-old Nicholas Wollum, who was a passenger of the Dodge Dart Antrim was driving; the deputy followed the pair from State Road 3 near Henry County Road 650 North to Muncie, Indiana after they fled from a traffic stop.

Court documents say Antrim was driving eastbound on West McGalliard Road when, approaching the Tillotson Avenue intersection, he swerved into the left turn lane to avoid vehicles stopped at a red light. Antrim sped into the intersection and crashed into a Jeep Wrangler.

Wollum was killed and Jeep’s driver got serious injuries in the crash.

Earlier in January, the Delaware County prosecutor announced they will not file charges against the deputy for continuing the chase so far. Prosecutor Eric Hoffman said filling criminal charges was a “very close call.”

“Given the totality of the circumstances, assuming there is probable cause to believe that (the deputy) committed criminal recklessness on April 18, 2024, I do not believe that such a charge would be able to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt at trial,” Hoffman wrote in the January press release.

No charges were considered for the officer’s superior officers, since they remained in Henry County during the chase and the Delaware County prosecutor had no jurisdiction.

Monday, Hoffman announced that Antrim pled guilty to two charges of resisting law enforcement, which caused Wollum’s death and serious injury to the Jeep driver — both are felonies. In the case, Antrim faced seven other charges for the crash, including mostly felonies and two misdemeanors.

Antrim’s sentencing is set for Sept. 29. He could be sentenced to 4-22 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
