New amenities open at Grassy Creek Park in Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Grassy Creek Park on the Indianapolis east side has unveiled new upgrades, including an environmental community center and a nature playground.
The park, which expanded by 75 acres in 2021, spans over 240 acres, making it one of the largest parks in Indianapolis. It is also the fourth park in the city focused on nature education.
Samantha Douglas, president of the Far Eastside Community Council, said at a groundbreaking on Tuesday, “We also have this incredible space inside of here that fosters collaboration, gives us space to connect with residents, to share with them, to educate, to empower them or help them to discover their power, right?”
The project was funded in part by the Circle City Forward Initiative, a $45 million investment aimed at enhancing multiple Indy Parks facilities, including Frederick Douglass and Riverside Regional parks.
