INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Ganggang, a cultural development and social justice organization, is holding a new cultural series to bring joy, music and community to Indy’s near westside.
Ganggang is launching The Kickback, a twelve-event series designed to unite, uplift and entertain at the AMP at 16 Tech.
“It’s really a showcase of how innovation meets creativity, and supporting artists and different things in the area,” Whitney Ball, director of events at 16 Tech, said.
Starting Thursday, the series features everything from live concerts to civic conversations and dance workshops.
“We have the Black Joy Line Dancing workshop which is coming up this Thursday. You learn different types of line dances, and then we’ll have some events here for the WNBA All-Star Weekend celebrating women DJs, and then we’ll have a fun game night where you can play Uno, Spades, things like that,” Ball said.
Other events include ‘Sounds like BUTTER’, a sound experience from the team behind the Butter Art Fair, and an open mic night. The Kickback spotlights local talent and brings more people on the near westside together.
“During these events, we’re just so excited to show what we can do here and in, this time, supporting artists and creatives at this space when there’s so much more. It’s arts and culture, and then we have the food aspect at the AMP. All of it is really exciting,” Ball said.
The AMP, located in the heart of the 16 Tech Innovation District is home to 20 food and retail venders, and now a growing amount of cultural programming.
“I think just supporting the area, and then 16 Tech’s initiative, I think that we’ll be doing this more often,” Ball said.
The full event lineup runs through August 15 and is free to attend.
