Four sentenced for the kidnapping, ransom, and murder of a man in 2022

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Four out of the five convicted for kidnapping, beating, then killing a man over a stolen rental car three years ago have been sentence.

In December 2022, 28-year-old Corbin Rodgers was found lying in a pool of blood after he was shot and killed in an empty home in the 100 block of Euclid Avenue, on the east side of Indianapolis near the intersection with Washington Street.

Five people, including at the time, two teenage juveniles, kidnapped Rodgers: Daniel Jackson, 16; D’Sean Bigbee-Cummings, 17; Jaheim Miller, 21; Josselyn Johnson, 29; and Cristina Clark, 35. Clark believed Rodgers stole a vehicle she rented, and she wanted it back. The group kidnapped Rodgers off the street, beat him, and made him call and record videos to his grandmother and girlfriend demanding ransom money. Then, the five killed Rodgers.

By June 20, all five defendants either pleaded guilty or were convicted for various crimes in Rodgers’ murder.

Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears announced Tuesday, that all but Bigbee-Cummings have been sentenced for their roles in the murder.

Jonson was sentenced to 85 years in prison, earning a habitual offender enhancement, while Clark received 78 years. Jackson and Miller, who both pleaded guilty for conspiracy to kill Rodgers, got 30 and 20 years, respectively.

Bigbee-Cummings will be sentenced July 28 in Criminal Court 27.

“We are pleased to see 78 and 85-year prison sentences for the two adults convicted of Murder and the Felony Firearm Enhancement,” Prosecutor Mears said in the sentencing announcement. “These sentences reflect the seriousness of the crime and our office’s commitment to holding violent offender’s accountable.”
