Four injured, including neighbor, from shooting in Marion apartment

MARION, Ind. (WISH) — Four people were shot at an apartment complex, including a neighbor who was struck by a bullet that went through the wall, in a shooting Monday in Marion, Indiana.

The Marion Police Department says that the shooting happened at the Greentree West Apartments near West Spencer and North Bradner avenues.

When officers arrived, they immediately found two males who were shot. The first was in the entryway to the apartment building with “at least 2 non-life-threatening wounds” from the shooting, the Marion Police Department said in a press release Tuesday. After going to the apartment where the shooting happened, another male was sitting in the doorway with at least two gunshot wounds.

Next to him was an AR-15-style rifle.

Police say that he was taken to the hospital in critical condition, later being airlifted to Indianapolis for further treatment.

A third male, “who was shot more than 2 times,” showed up to Marion Health in the same vehicle that was reported at the scene. He was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital where he is in critical condition.

Police say a handgun was found in the vehicle.

Back at the apartment, police say a neighbor was injured from the shootout when a bullet went through the wall, pierced the couch, then hit them in the back. Police say that bullet didn’t break skin.

The Marion Police Department says that a 7-year-old was in the apartment during the shooting, but was not hurt.

A armed witness to the shooting told investigators that he ran when it happened. While fleeing, the witness said he threw a handgun in the trash, but later showed police where to find it. In the apartment, police found a second AR-15-style rifle and several shell casings from a 9mm and .223.

Police have not released the names or ages of anyone involved in the shooting. No motive has been uncovered, but police say it was an isolated incident. Police did not say when the shooting happened.
