Former deputy accused of being informant for drug dealer
CONNERSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — A former Fayette County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested for helping a drug dealer run a large-scale marijuana operation as an informant.
Police say that former Deputy Andrew Blaes, 46, was an informant for Tristen Sweney, 27.
The charges against Blaes include corrupt business influence, conspiracy to commit bribery, conspiracy to commit obstruction of justice, aiding in dealing in marijuana, unauthorized release of information, and official misconduct.
Police say the illegal activity happened between January 202 to November 2024.
Court documents say Indiana State Police began investigating Sweney’s alleged marijuana distribution activities in March 2022.
In October 2022, police searched Sweney’s residence, seizing drugs, cash, guns, and electronic devices.
Sweney’s phone showed communication with Blaes, in which ISP believes Blaes shared police information with Sweney in exchange for chase.
Blaes left the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department in November 2024.
