GREENFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — A driver experiencing a medical emergency crashed their vehicle into a Greenfield antique store, firefighters said Sunday.
First responders with the Sugar Creek Township Fire Department wrote on social media their crews were called to J.W. Riley’s Emporium, 107 W. Main St., just before 5 p.m. on a report that a vehicle drove into the building.
There, they found a black vehicle with its front end smashed in near the building. Multiple windows were shattered, and an exterior wall in front of a display was crushed in.
Firefighters learned the driver had experienced some sort of medical emergency shortly before the crash. They were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Sugar Creek FD and Greenfield Fire Territory teamed up as the Hancock County Technical Rescue Team stabilized the building.
One firefighter was hurt, but was treated on the scene. The fire department had not provided an update on the driver as of Monday.
The store says it will be closed for “the next few days” as they clean up damages, but look forward to reopening as soon as possible.
