Decatur Township Schools gives away backpacks
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Decatur Township Schools on Monday ensured students were prepared for the first day of school with a backpack and school supply giveaway at Decatur Central High School.
The event, which took place as a drive-thru, distributed approximately 1,500 backpacks filled with essential school supplies such as notebooks, folders and pencils.
Emily LeMay, director of student and family engagement at the public school district on the southwest side, said, “It just gets bigger and bigger each year and we’re really grateful to all of our sponsors and partners who make this possible to put it on.”
The giveaway has been a tradition for more than a decade, providing necessary supplies to students in the district.
The first day of school for Decatur Township Schools is set for July 31. In-person registration for students living in the district will be from 9 a.m.-noon and 4-8 p.m. Thursday at all schools.
