INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indiana’s first and fastest daily morning podcast leads off with the reaction of several Indiana Republicans to the call for Congressional redistricting. Subscribe to the Daybreak Drive-IN podcast to get the news, sports, and weather you’ll need to start your day – delivered every morning before 5am.
- What remains of a homeless encampment in Fountain Square can stay in place, at least for now. The Indianapolis Office of Public Health and Safety ordered everyone out by midnight Monday, but crews have not forcibly removed anyone since the deadline. OPHS says it will not evict people who remain on the site while the city and its partners work for lasting solutions.
- Several Republican state lawmakers are resisting the Trump administration’s call to redraw Indiana’s congressional lines. Vice President JD Vance discussed the idea last week with Governor Braun and the top Republicans in the Indiana House and Senate. Since then, NEWS8 has talked to three GOP state representatives who are a hard ‘no’ on the idea. Braun has said he will follow the lead of the General Assembly.
- The Attorney General of Texas is escalating the partisan redistricting fight. Ken Paxton is asking a judge to hold Democrat Beto O’Rourke in contempt. Paxton says he wants O’Rourke in jail for his fundraising efforts on behalf of Texas Democrats in the statehouse who have stymied GOP plans to redraw the state’s congressional maps. Indiana Democrats are heading to Illinois today to meet with some of the self-exiled Texas politicians.
- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says the man who fired more than 180 shots at the headquarter of the CDC, and killed a police officer, wanted to send a message against COVID-19 vaccines. Investigators say the shooter broke into his father’s gun safe to get the weapon.
- The Indiana Fever fell just short in a strong bid for a comeback home win. Down 17 with less than seven minutes in the game, the Fever went on a tear, clawing to within one point and a shot to win it in the end. Kelsey Mitchell’s mid-range jumper to win it just missed. The Fever host the Mystics Friday.
- We’re seeing patchy morning fog. It should be mostly cloudy as the day wears on, with a few showers and storms south of I-70 this afternoon. Temperatures will top out at 86°.
