INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — While today remains cool and dry, a significant warm-up is on the way, along with increasing chances for rain later this week.
Freeze warning in effect this morning.
A freeze warning is in effect through mid-morning for the northern half of central Indiana, where temperatures have dropped into the upper 20s and even the freezing mark.
Cool and quiet today.
High pressure moving through the region will keep conditions dry and cool today. Afternoon highs will be well below normal, likely failing to get out of the 40s. Skies will remain sunny, and winds should be much lighter compared to Monday.

Another cold night ahead.
While not as widespread as this morning, near-freezing temperatures are possible again tonight, especially across the northeastern portions of central Indiana. Patchy frost cannot be ruled out in some of the colder spots.

Warming trend begins Wednesday.
The cooler pattern will be short-lived. By Wednesday, winds will shift to the south and high pressure will move east. This shift will bring warmer conditions as temperatures surge back into the 60s by Wednesday afternoon. Highs will then climb into the lower 70s for Thursday and Friday.

Rain chances return late in the week.
Relatively quiet conditions will continue through mid-week, but changes will arrive as early as late Thursday night and continue into the weekend.
An stalled frontal system will move toward the region by Thursday, triggering some scattered showers and possibly a thunderstorm across northern parts of the state Thursday afternoon and evening.

That frontal system will start to sag southward heading into Friday, sparking scattered showers and a few thunderstorms across central Indiana Friday afternoon and Friday night. Some of the showers will linger into the very early morning hours of Saturday.

Warm and mostly quiet weekend.
Despite a few showers early Saturday morning, most of the weekend looks to be pretty quiet. High temperatures should top out near 70° on Saturday, with a tremendous jump in temperatures on Sunday as highs push close to 80°.
