Gas station employee arrested for rape
EDINBURGH, Ind. (WISH) — An attendant at gas station in rural Edinburgh has been arrested on a preliminary charge of rape after the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an assault on Sunday at the business.
Deputies responded to Johnson County Memorial Hospital in Franklin, after authorities there learned of the reported rape of an Edinburgh resident. It’s believed to have happened just after 3:20 a.m. Sunday inside the station in the 13000 block of North U.S. 31. That’s south of the unincorporated community of Pleasant View Village in northwestern Bartholomew County.
Online court records did not show a case Monday night for the suspect, Varinderpal Singh, 24. He had been put on a 72-hour hold in jail after he was taken into custody.
The gas station is about a 40-minute drive southeast of downtown Indianapolis.
