Anderson man convicted of fatally shooting wife

ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) — A jury on Thursday convicted a 49-year-old Anderson man for the murder of his wife, and agreed to a felony firearm enhancement that could give him a potential prison sentence of 65 years, a Madison County prosecutor said.

Jeremy Hinson was scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 28 in Madison Circuit Court 4.

Michela Hinson, 47, was found dead with seven gunshot wounds around 3:10 p.m. June 26, 2024, in the driver’s seat of a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee at the Forrestville Cemetery near Summitville. The rural cemetery sits alongside County Road 1650 North, about 5 miles west of the town of Summitville. That’s about a 75-minute drive northeast of downtown Indianapolis.

Detective Jim Sundheimer of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department said, in court documents, that Jeremy Hinson was found in the passenger seat of the SUV. A sheriff’s officer gave Jeremy Hinson a pat down and found a 9mm semiautomatic handgun, a Springfield Armory Hellcat, in a holster on his waistband.

Later, investigators with a search warrant found a box for the Hellcat in a closet of Jeremy Hinson’s home, and its serial number matched the one on the gun he’d been carrying.

An autopsy determined the gunshot wounds were inflicted at a close range.

Michela Hinson’s obituary said she worked as a bus driver for the Anderson Schools and the City of Anderson Transit System. In addition to her husband, she was survived by her two sons, her mother, a brother and other extended family members.

Also during the investigation, a jailhouse video call between Jeremy Hinson and his sister was reviewed, in which Hinson expressed remorse, saying, “I feel most bad for the boys.”

“Obviously I wasn’t thinking right. I don’t know what happened to make me do that, but tell them I love them.”
