ACLU holds event to support transgender Hoosiers – News 8 at 11
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The ACLU of Indiana is pushing for protections for transgender children against what it calls a “relentless” attack on their rights.
Demonstrators took over the Indiana Statehouse lawn Saturday, protesting a recent decision from the U.S. Supreme Court allowing states to ban gender-affirming care for minors. Indiana is one of the 27 states banning or limiting access.
Speakers at Saturday’s event called on allies to get involved.
“That includes contacting state legislatures and hearing from people who are trans about their lived experience, and what these attacks have meant for them and their families and our state,” said a representative for the ACLU of Indiana.
State lawmakers called on the legislature to repeal aspects of Indiana’s transgender healthcare ban that limits doctors from assisting, talking about, or referring patients to transition procedures.
