Sunshine returns to Central Indiana, rain chances increase Friday | May 7, 2026

Marcus’ 4 a.m. Thursday forecast

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Sunshine returns across Central Indiana today. Warmer temperatures with periods of rain are expected heading into the weekend.

Sunny and Cool Thursday

High pressure will move in from the west, keeping us dry, calm, and bright. We may see a few clouds build late in the afternoon, with a very slight chance of a shower over northern counties later today.

High temperatures will top out in the mid-60s.

Rain Chances Return Friday

A stronger upper-level system will move through the region on Friday, bringing warmer conditions to the area. High temperatures should reach the mid- to possibly upper 60s during the afternoon.

We will start the day dry, but clouds will increase by late morning. Rain chances will rise during the afternoon and evening hours. Rain will be scattered, with a few isolated non-severe thunderstorms possible into late Friday night.

Half-and-Half Weekend

The low responsible for Friday’s rain will stall near our area. Any significant rainfall should pull away by early Saturday morning, keeping much of Saturday dry. Any early-morning rain chances should remain south of the Indy metro area. The rest of the day looks dry and warm, with highs in the mid-70s.

Another cold front will move through the state on Mother’s Day, sparking scattered showers and possibly a thunderstorm. The window for rain will open in the morning and continue into the afternoon hours. Rain chances will be quite isolated, so many areas will see plenty of dry time on Sunday.

High temperatures will top out in the mid- to upper 60s.

The pattern looks to remain active heading into next week. Monday appears completely dry but much cooler, with highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Shower and thunderstorm chances will increase midweek as temperatures warm back closer to average for mid-May.
