IMPD nabs 18 in near north side drug investigation

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Eighteen suspects found themselves in cuffs Wednesday as part of a monthslong drug investigation on the near north side, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

IMPD wrote in a release on social media Thursday the investigation started earlier this year after receiving community tips about “suspected ongoing narcotics-related activity” at a home on Capitol Avenue near 38th Street.

From there, investigators gathered evidence and eventually searched the home on Wednesday. As a result, IMPD arrested 18 people on various drug charges, along with firearm and common nuisance charges.

Police say “numerous drugs and drug paraphernalia” were found in the home; two firearms were also seized.

“These arrests were the direct result of community members coming forward and providing information to our officers,” the department said. “Our officers care deeply about the neighborhood we serve, and they worked diligently to gather evidence and build a case. When the community and IMPD work together, we make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.”

The Marion County prosecutor was expected to make final charging decisions.
