11-0 Indiana University football holds onto No. 2 spot in CFP rankings

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — The 11-0 Indiana University football on Tuesday night remained No. 2 in the College Football Playoff rankings for the third consecutive week following their 31-7 victory Saturday over Wisconsin.

The Hoosiers final game of the season will be 7:30 p.m. Nov. 28 for the Old Oaken Bucket at Purdue (2-9).

IU Athletics said in a news release issued after the latest rankings were revealed, “Indiana has now been among the teams in playoff consideration for nine-straight CFP polls, all of those among the top 10. It is the 13th time in program history that IU has been among the contenders for a playoff spot.”

Georgia on Tuesday nabbed the fourth and final projected first-round bye, while undefeated Ohio State, Indiana and Texas A&M held onto the top three positions.

The College Football Playoff rankings will be updated on Nov. 25 and Dec. 2, with the final 12-team bracket revealed on Dec. 7. The top four teams in the rankings released Dec. 7 will receive byes in this season’s playoff, which starts Dec. 19 with the 5-8 seeds hosting first-round games on campus and concludes with the title game a month later.

This ranking, along with those coming out the next two Tuesdays, are all about positioning. Two teams outside the committee’s top 12 would be in a bracket that assures spots for the five best-ranked conference champions.
