INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Jack Blake does it again.
The Indy Eleven midfielder’s left-footed beaut in the 68th minute Saturday night secured the Boys in Blue the upset win over Western Conference leader FC Tulsa but also set a new franchise record. That goal was Blake’s 25th for Indy, which is the most in team history since joining the USL Championship league in 2018.
Blake’s goal made it a 2-0 game against Tulsa. The best of the West netted a goal of its own in the 80th minute mark, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the surging Indy Eleven.
The Nottingham, England native has now scored 10 goals this season, which leads the team. It also matches his career single-season best. He scored 10 last season for the Indy Eleven as well. In total, Blake has 42 goals to his name throughout his time in the USL Championship league. He’s just the 19th player in league history to have at least 40 goals and 25 assists during the regular season.
Saturday’s win at Carroll Stadium pushes the Boys in Blue into playoff contention. Currently, Indy sits in safety as eighth on the table. However, only one point separates them and Rhode Island FC for that final playoff spot with four matches left in the season.
The Indy Eleven will face rival Louisville City FC next week on the road. Lou City has dominated this season, winning 19 of 26 games so far and losing only one. The Boys in Blue will then close out the season with Pittsburgh, Loudoun United and Orange County. The final home match of the regular season is Saturday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
