Man dead after single-vehicle crash on Clinton Street in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WISH) — A wheelchair-bound man is dead after a single-vehicle crash in Fort Wayne Sunday, according to the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD).

At 5:48 p.m. Sunday, Fort Wayne officers were dispatched to a vehicle crash with injury on Clinton Street at East Baker Street in front of a U.S. Post Office. Officers arrived and found that the crash involved a man in a wheelchair. The man was listed in critical condition and officers started life-saving measures.

The man was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The FWPD Fatal Accident Crash Team and Air Support Unit was requested to investigate the crash. The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with investigators.

Investigators believe it was raining heavily, and the wheelchair-bound man was crossing Clinton Street when he was struck by the vehicle. Investigators are searching the area for video evidence of the crash. Clinton Street was closed for almost two hours while the FWPD investigated.
