Indiana DNR identifies body recovered from Lake Michigan

BEVERLY SHORES, Ind. (WISH) — Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) conservation officers have identified a body recovered from Lake Michigan on May 10.

At the request of DNR investigators, the Indiana State Police Indianapolis Regional Laboratory compared DNA from the body to a family member, and the remains have been identified as Adan Carrera Sanches, 20, of Chicago, Illinois.

Conservation officers made the request after confirming with investigators from the Stone Park Police Department in Stone Park, Illinois, that they were investigating a missing person who had jewelry similar to that found with the body.

A DNR detective requested an investigator from the Stone Park Police Department obtain a DNA sample from a relative of Sanches. The sample was collected and tested, resulting in positive identification.

Sanches was reported missing to the Stone Park Police Department in January. The investigation is ongoing. DNR investigators ask that any questions regarding the investigation be directed to the Stone Park Police Department at 708-450-3216.

Conservation officers were assisted by the Porter County Coroner’s Office, the Indiana State Police Forensic Services Section, the Stone Park Police Department, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit.
