INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — All-Star Caitlin Clark is once again on a growing list of Indiana Fever injury report.
Clark has been ruled out for Sunday night’s game against the Minnesota Lynx, marking her 15th straight game missed after injuring her right groin during July 15th’s game against the Connecticut Sun. Multiple reports also indicate that Clark suffered a bone bruise in her ankle during practice. However, that injury shouldn’t slow her timeline of getting back on the court, according to those same reports.
Head coach Stephanie White said she hopes to have Clark back in the lineup before the end of the regular season, although the Fever are focused on ensuring Clark is fully healthy before returning.
“I think the experience throughout the year, trying to come back quickly, taught her that she needs to make sure she’s 100%,” White said. “Yes, every competitor wants to play. But at the same time, doing it the right way and making sure that after we’ve had a couple of setbacks that we’re prioritizing her long-term health and wellness is the most important thing.”
Clark is among five Fever players ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Lynx. Chloe Bibby, Sydney Colson and Sophie Cunningham are all dealing with knee injuries, while Aari McDonald has an injured right foot. Cunningham is expected to miss the remainder of the season after tearing her right MCL during last weekend’s game against Connecticut.
Sunday will be the 24th regular season game that Clark will miss this season. She also missed the Fever’s win in the Commissioner’s Cup championship game, as well as the All-Star Game and Three-Point Contest during All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis.
Clark has averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 8.8 assists per game in 13 games played this season.
Clark has also dealt with a left quad injury and a left groin injury this season.
The Fever are 8-5 with Clark this season and 11-12 without her during the regular season. The Fever also beat the Minnesota Lynx without Clark to win the Commissioner’s Cup.
The Fever (19-17) are 6th in the WNBA standings.
