INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis is closing out IndyFringe with a touch of wonder, and magician John Shore is ready to deliver it.

Shore is performing his show “Abra” on Saturday, which pulls from more than 40 years of experience in magic. He says the production is part original work and part classic illusions with a modern twist.

“I took this as an opportunity to go back to my repertoire and pulled together my favorite pieces that I’ve developed over the years,” Shore said. “So much of the magic in the show is original to me, and you can only see by coming to this show.”

Shore’s love for magic started when he was just eight years old, after his father performed tricks at a birthday party. Before long, he was the one performing for friends. By high school, he was traveling the state, bringing assemblies to schools.

“Good magic is good for everybody,” Shore explained. “Younger audiences react well when it’s not watered down as a ‘kiddie’ show.”

“Abra” is billed as an all-ages show, with something for both kids and adults. Shore says audiences can expect a little bit of everything, from cards to coins to illusions that stretch the imagination.

“My approach is that magic allows us to explore things that are just beyond the bounds of reality, in a way that’s very safe for everybody,” he said.

Shore will perform “Abra” at the IF Theatre at 5 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $22 for adults and $16 for children.
