Indiana University suspends Palestine Solidarity Committee activities

IU tells Palestine Solidarity Committee to suspend activities

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — Indiana University is making the Palestine Solidarity Committee, a student organization, suspend all activities on campus.

“Alarmed, but not very surprised,” said Bryce Greene, a co-founder of the Palestine Solidarity Committee.

In the letter given to I-Team 8 by an anonymous source, the university told the organization that “the Palestine Solidarity Committee has engaged in group behaviors that violate university policy and present an ongoing threat of harm and disruption to the university community. Behaviors include, but are not limited to, the material and substantial disruption of university operations and damage to university property.”

Greene said, “This is the issue with the letter. There were no specific allegations in the letter. It was alleged that between 2023 and 2025 we were accused of being disruptive and violating university policy, but there’s no specific instance, or incident that they are pointing to, so this makes this entire ordeal all the more disturbing.”

In a statement, Indiana University told I-Team 8:

“The investigation into the Palestine Solidarity Committee remains ongoing. Interim measures regarding student groups are initiated when there are substantiated allegations of behavior that has caused or may cause harm to the members of the organization and/or the community.”

Greene said, “It’s not hard to figure out what is going on. The people supporting genocide want it to continue. Students, faculty, staff, who are against the genocide must be silenced. They’re trying to make an example. They’re trying to demonstrate the costs of political activism on campus and therefore try to discourage students and faculty from engaging in that activism.”

Greene told I-Team 8 the organization intends to challenge the cease-and-desist letter, but did not say if that will include any legal action against the university.
