Person dead after shooting on city’s east side
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A woman was killed in a shooting on the near east side of Indianapolis, and her husband is now in custody, according to police.
As News 8 has reported, the incident happened Tuesday night at an apartment near 10th Street and North Oakland Avenue, just east of Rural Street.
Police were called to the scene and confirmed that children were inside the home during the shooting, but they were not harmed.
“It’s just sad and unfortunate that a relationship ends in tragedy like this,” said Capt. Rob Rider of Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. “When so many different resources and so many different decisions could be made. Unfortunately, the decision that was made tonight was irreversible.”
As a police officer approached the building, he heard a gunshot and saw a man running outside.
Police identified the man as 40-year-old Octavius Maurice McBride, who had a gun and was quickly taken into custody.
Inside the apartment, officers found 43-year-old Quiana McBride, who died at the scene.
Octavius McBride faces a preliminary charge of murder, and prosecutors are expected to make final charging decisions.
Court records show Octavius McBride was arrested in 2020 for strangulation and domestic battery involving a different person. He was charged, but the case was later dismissed after the court excluded the victim.
