Rep. Marlin Stutzman nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A Republican congressman from Indiana and a colleague from Tennessee have nominated President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Rep. Marlin Stutzman (IN-3) announced the nomination in a Wednesday morning Facebook post.

“President Donald J. Trump’s leadership in reducing conflict and the risk of war, and his commitment to fostering dialogue as a path toward reconciliation make him the clear choice to win this year’s Nobel Prize. Excited to see him receive this prestigious award in December,” Stutzman wrote on Facebook.

In a letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee dated Aug. 19, Stutzman and Rep. Andy Ogle (R-Tennessee) ask that Trump be recognized for his “historic achievements in international diplomacy.”

“In recognition of his concrete contributions to international fraternity, his leadership in reducing conflict and the risk of war, and his commitment to fostering dialogue as a path toward reconciliation. His decisive leadership in securing landmark diplomatic agreements, deescalating global conflicts, and actively pursuing peaceful resolutions to some of the world’s most entrenched disputes has led and continues to lead to a more peaceful world.”

Stutzman and Ogle write that Trump has “continued to advance peace through active and results-driven diplomacy,” and cite several accomplishments from his time in office, including the Abraham Accords, a peace deal between Armenia and Azerbaijan, “direct engagement” with North Korea, and Friday’s summit in Alaska with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“For his bold and ongoing pursuit of peace, his proven record of successful negotiation, and his willingness to engage directly in the resolution of active conflicts, we commend President Donald J. Trump to your most serious consideration for the Nobel Peace Prize,” the congressmen say in closing.

Four U.S. presidents have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize: Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Jimmy Carter, and Barack Obama. Carter received his award after leaving office.

The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize will be awarded on Dec. 10 in Oslo, Norway.
