INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man who lived at a hotel on the northwest side of Indianapolis was formally charged Tuesday with three mid-level felony counts of rape and two mid-level felony counts of promotion of human sexual trafficking.
The case against Lovie Darnell Grace involved two women. One of them, an 18-year-old, told an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department detective that the 31-year-old man was “selling our bodies” from his room at the Comfort Inn & Suites North at the Pyramids, a court affidavit said.
Both women told the detective that Grace was using threats and physical violence to control them. Both woman expressed fear of retaliation.
Police, using a search warrant, found what the affidavit said was evidence consistent with commercial sex operations, including large quantities of condoms and personal hygiene items, and cocaine and marijuana. Grace was also found with $7,640 in cash and room keys to the hotel rooms.
The investigation revealed that Grace was on house arrest at the time of the offenses and had prior convictions related to drug possession.
News 8 first reported on Grace’s arrest on Friday.
