RUSSIAVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — A man has been arrested following a stabbing in Howard County Saturday.
The Howard County Sheriff’s Office said that 54-year-old James Hampton, from Kokomo, was arrested for the attempted murder of 35-year-old Derek Wheeler.
Aug. 16, first responders were called to the 600 south block of County Road 750 West for a stabbing. When officers arrived, they found Wheeler “suffering from a large laceration wound to his abdomen,” the Howard County Sheriff’s office said in a press release Tuesday.
Wheeler was taken to hospital in critical condition, but was later air-lifted to Fort Wayne for further treatment.
After an investigation, officers were able to identify Hampton as the suspect in the stabbing. Police teamed up with a SWAT team to search a home in the 300 block of Branded Boulevard, on the west side of Kokomo, where they arrested Hampton Aug. 17.
Hampton has been charged with a level one felony for attempted murder and another for felony for battery resulting in serious injury.
