Traffic stop and police chase lead to drug bust in Southport

SOUTHPORT, Ind. (WISH) — While conducting a traffic stop in Southport, Indiana Tuesday, police were able to nab a “substantial quantity” of drugs.

The Southport Police Department says the drug bust happened “in the early hours of the morning” on east Southport Road. An officer tried to pull a vehicle over for speeding, but they refused to pull over, starting a chase that ended safely, Southport police say.

Inside the vehicle, police say they found 212 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 33 grams of suspected crack cocaine, 7 grams of cocaine, 16 grams of heroin, and 247 grams of marijuana.

“This significant seizure removed a dangerous amount of narcotics from circulation and likely prevented these substances from causing serious harm in the community,” a press release says.
