INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A Monday evening rollover crash on I-65 in southern Indiana claimed the life of a 70-year-old woman from Indianapolis.
Indiana State Police say the accident happened just before 5:30 p.m. when a pickup truck tried to merge into the left lane of northbound I-65 near Sellersburg and collided with a Chevrolet Malibu.
The crash caused both vehicles to lose control and spin into the median between the north and southbound lanes.
State police say the Ford F-150 pickup truck rolled over and came to rest in the southbound fast lane, while the Malibu stopped on top of the center guardrail barrier.
The passenger in the pickup truck, identified as 70-year-old Gloria Jones, was thrown from the vehicle during the crash and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Chevy Malibu was not injured and was released at the scene.
Lanes of I-65 northbound and southbound remained closed for the investigation until approximately 8:30 p.m. Monday.
No other information was immediately available.
