Marcus’ 5 a.m. Tuesday forecast
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A significant weather pattern shift is underway following today’s rain.
Today:
We’re tracking scattered showers and thunderstorms moving through northern parts of the state this morning, associated with a warm front. Showers and storms in central Illinois are linked to a cold front that will slowly move into the state throughout Tuesday. A few isolated showers or thunderstorms are possible in the morning, with slightly higher chances of scattered storms in the afternoon as the cold front moves overhead.
The primary concerns are heavy rain and frequent lightning, though there is a low-end threat for damaging winds, with gusts potentially exceeding 60 mph in one or two storms.
Despite the rain chances and cloud cover, today will be another very hot and humid day. Highs will reach near 90°, with feels-like temperatures approaching 100°F this afternoon.
Tonight:
Showers will continue into the early evening but gradually diminish overnight. Overnight lows will remain warm and muggy, dropping to the upper 60s and lower 70s.
Heat relief staring Wednesday:
Refreshing air will settle in starting Wednesday and continue for the next several days. Expect highs around 80°F on Wednesday with much lower humidity levels.
More seasonable temperatures are forecast for Thursday and Friday as high pressure settles in. Highs will reach the mid-80s on both days.
7 day forecast:
A weak cold front moving through on Saturday may produce a few sprinkles, but most areas will remain dry and pleasant with highs in the mid-80s. The bigger story will be a surge of refreshing air arriving Saturday night following the cold front. Overnight lows will fall to the low and mid-50s, with highs struggling to reach the 70s on Sunday and Monday.
The long-term pattern suggests temperatures will stay slightly below average for much of next week, heading into the Labor Day holiday weekend.
