Man dies after getting hit by car in Clay County
CARBON, Ind. (WISH) — State police have arrested a Clay County woman after she reportedly hit and killed a man walking on the road while drunk driving on Sunday night.
The fatal crash happened at County Road 1450 North at State Road 59, just west of Carbon.
Courtney Withers, 36, of Carbon, was driving on C.R. 1450 N. when she failed to see Samuel Chambers, 48, also of Carbon, walking alongside the road. Chambers was hit as a result, and pronounced dead at the scene.
State police responded to investigation, soon finding that Withers showed signs of impairment and failed field sobriety tests. Investigators add a juvenile was in the car at the time of the crash. They did not reveal the child’s age, but say they were released to a family member.
Withers was arrested and booked into the Clay County jail.
She faces felony charges of causing death while operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a passenger under 18.
