Hot and humid conditions to give way to thunderstorms and cooler temperatures | Aug. 18, 2025

Marcus’ 4 a.m. Monday forecast

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — High heat and humidity will continue to start the week, with storm chances returning midweek.

Monday will begin with clear and muggy conditions. We’re monitoring a few isolated cells that have moved into northwestern portions of Central Indiana. The limited rain chances for today will be confined to extreme western Indiana and will remain very isolated.

The rest of Central Indiana will experience partly cloudy, hot, and humid conditions today, with highs around 90°F and heat indices in the mid-90s.

Overnight, expect mainly clear, quiet, and muggy conditions, with lows dropping to the lower 70s.

An upper-level wave and cold front will move through the state on Tuesday. Ahead of the front, a strong surge of humid air will spread across the region. High temperatures will reach the lower 90s, with heat indices ranging from the upper 90s to around 100°F.

As the cold front moves through in the afternoon, expect scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, one or two storms could produce strong to severe wind gusts. Otherwise, heavy rain and frequent lightning will be the primary concerns.

On Wednesday, the cold front will shift to southern portions of the state, bringing more moisture and better rain chances. Temperatures will be slightly cooler but remain muggy, with highs in the low to mid-80s.

A significant pattern change will begin on Thursday, ushering in quiet weather for the next several days. Seasonable temperatures for late August will return, with highs in the mid-80s on Thursday and Friday, likely continuing into the start of the weekend under the influence of high pressure.

Another boundary moving through Saturday night into Sunday will likely bring a reinforcing shot of cooler air, and high temperatures may struggle to reach the upper 70s by Sunday. This cooling trend is expected to persist into much of the following week, based on the long-range pattern.
