Eskenazi Health hosts second Community Day Health Fair
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Despite the heat and chances of a pop-up storm, people on the east side of Indianapolis got a healthy start to their weekend.
That’s because WISH-TV, along with other community partners, sponsored an Eskenazi Health Community Day Health Fair on Saturday. The fair was held on the Eskenazi Health Thomas and Arlene Grande Campus, which is just over a year old. It serves as a one-stop shop for people needing multiple heath screenings and medical care.
Parents were able to have their schoolchildren vaccinated for free. There were also free book bags for the kids, games, a bounce house, and food for all. Participants also got to see what mental health resources are available.
Antonia Wilson, clinical manager at Eskenazi Health, is grateful for the chance to expose people to what the Thomas and Arlene Grande Campus has to offer.
“Patients who have transportation barriers no longer have to travel elsewhere to get additional services,” Wilson said. “So, it’s been a great impact to the community.”
Emily Littleton, a social work case manager, said, “We’ve got a lot of resources on our website at marionhealth.org, and it kind of gives you a baseline on where you are in your mental health. I really encourage people to get out there and get online if they’re not here.”
According to the National Association of Community Health Centers,1 out of 10 people in the United States is a patient of a health center.
