Man arrested for running over woman with car multiple times in Elkhart
ELKHART, Ind. (WISH) — Elkhart Police Department officers arrested a man for striking a woman multiple times with a vehicle and then fleeing the scene.
On Aug. 8, at 10:19 p.m., Elkhart officers arrived at 111 East Lusher Ave. for a hit-and-run call with injuries. The victim, a 42-year-old woman, indicated that a known male suspect ran her over multiple times with his vehicle. That vehicle had left the scene before officers arrived. Medics arrived and transported the victim to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of serious and potentially life-threatening injuries.
While investigating, officers found the suspect vehicle, a Ford Explorer, in the 400 block of East Simonton Street a short while later. Elkhart officers located and arrested the male suspect, identified as Christian Hernandez Gonzalez, in the 400 block of East Simonton Street and transported him to the Elkhart County Jail.
The investigation revealed that Gonzalez had previously been in a relationship with the victim.
Gonzalez is being preliminarily charged with two counts of aggravated battery, battery by means of a deadly weapon, causing serious bodily injury when operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and leaving the scene of an accident with moderate or serious bodily injury.
An Elkhart County judge set Gonzalez’s bond at $1 million during his initial hearing Thursday.
