8-14-25 Butler Launches Global Program
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH)– Butler University has announced a groundbreaking degree program allowing students to earn a degree while studying in eight different countries over three years.
The program, set to begin with its first cohort in summer 2027, offers two tracks: environmental science and international business. Students will rotate through six semesters in six different countries, spending each summer on Butler University’s campus.
“We realized how connected the world was,” Jill McKinney said, director of global engagement at Butler University. “And possibly come up with some better solutions for us.”
The program was inspired during the pandemic, as McKinney reflected on global health and climate crises. “I think from those two things, I said, well, what I can do is maybe create a program that the next generation of leaders is going to be able to see the world,” she explained.
Butler University has been recognized as the most innovative school in the Midwest for ten years, fostering ideas through its transformation lab.
“We want to hear the ideas. Let’s try them,” McKinney noted. The cost of the program is expected to be similar to a traditional four-year degree at Butler, making it accessible to students who are independent, interested in travel and aiming for international careers.
This innovative program aims to prepare students as changemakers for global issues, offering them a unique educational experience across multiple countries.
