Indianapolis mayor introduces $1.7 billion budget proposal for 2026
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Democratic Mayor Joe Hogsett on Monday introduced a proposed $1.7 billion budget for 2026 during a City-County Council meeting, focusing on infrastructure and gun violence reduction.
The proposed budget includes $4.5 million for the city’s gun violence reduction strategy.
He said it marks the ninth consecutive balanced budget for Indianapolis.
Despite state-level property tax cuts, the city will not need to use its fiscal reserves. “We had to ask our agencies to do more with less. But thanks to our strong fiscal discipline over the last 10 years, the city of Indianapolis will not falter.”
The City-County Council will review the budget proposal before it’s approved, a process that could take a couple of months.
